Fithian: It's A 'Pipe-Dream' To Expect Tigers To Get Big Name By Trade Deadline

DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) - The MLB trade deadline is almost 24 hours away -- and what can we expect from the Detroit Tigers? Not much really.

In the hub and excitement of the Tigers' recent winning ways -- what may be lost in translation is the fact the Tigers have no depth in their farm system.

"The Tigers will be looking to add relief and/or starting pitcher by the trade deadline," says 97.1 The Ticket's Dennis Fithian. "But there are no 'grade A' prospects from the farm system."

But that's not to say the Tigers won't be making some moves before the Monday 4 p.m. deadline, but "it's really a pipe-dream to get a big name," says Fithian.

At issue: the Tigers have had trouble finding consistency in 2016 from their starting rotation outside of veteran Justin Verlander and rookie sensation Michael Fulmer.

Though he started the season as one of the American League's best pitchers, newcomer Jordan Zimmermann came back down to earth in May and June before hitting the disabled list on July 5. Anibal Sanchez, Mike Pelfrey and the revolving fifth spot have all been less than reliable.

When the Tigers took a run at closers Miller and Craig Kimbrel last off-season, the asking price started with Fulmer, Norris and Boyd, noted the Detroit News.
