First Lady Michelle Obama To Speak To Detroit High School Students

DETROIT (AP) - First lady Michelle Obama will speak to a rally of more than 1,500 Detroit high school students about the importance of committing to education beyond high school as part of her "Reach Higher" initiative.

Obama is scheduled to speak on Friday to the group from more than 40 Detroit high schools at the city's first college signing day, hosted by the Detroit College Access Network at Wayne State University. More than 400 such College Signing Day events are planned around the country.

The "Reach Higher" initiative kicked off last year. Obama attended a similar event last spring in San Antonio to kick off the program.
