Firefighter Injured While Battling Blaze In Warren; Space Heater Likely To Blame

WARREN (WWJ) - A firefighter has been taken to the hospital after he was injured while battling a house fire in Warren.

The fire took off early Tuesday morning on Prospect Street, in a neighborhood just north of 8 Mile Road along Van Dyke Avenue.

According to Warren Mayor Jim Fouts, the 43-year-old firefighter felt light-headed and suffered "heat inhalation" while battling the blaze. He was taken away from the scene in an ambulance with what were described as non life-threatening injuries. Fouts said he's expected to be released later Tuesday.

No other injuries were reported. A woman who lives at the home was away at the time, taking her children to school, when a space heater apparently caught fire, according to Fouts.

The fire caused an estimated $40,000 in damages to the home, which is now likely a total loss.

The fire remains under investigation.
