Fire That Killed 11-Year-Old Girl in Ecorse Ruled Accidental

ECORSE (AP) — The public safety director in Ecorse says a weekend fire that killed an 11-year-old girl and injured a woman appears to be accidental.

Michael Moore told The Associated Press on Monday that the fire broke out about 3 a.m. Sunday in the southern Detroit suburb.

He says the fire killed Kayla Martinez of Wyandotte and injured a woman who was in the house with her.

Moore says city fire investigators got help from the state police fire marshal's office and says their preliminary conclusion is that there's no foul play involved. He says the exact cause hasn't been confirmed.
