Festival To Feature Art Projects In Detroit, Hamtramck, And Highland Park

(CBS DETROIT/AP) — Art exhibitions, performances and events are scheduled over five months later this year in neighborhoods in Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park.

The 22 projects by Kresge Artist Fellows and Gilda Award winners are expected to run between September and December under the AXD festival banner. AXD is the successor to Art X festivals.

Projects include dance, music, murals, film and mixed genre. They were commissioned following an open call to nearly 200 Kresge Artist Fellows and Gilda Award winners from the first decade of the Kresge Arts in Detroit initiative.

AXD festival curator Cézanne Charles says the projects explore the changing landscape and narrative of Detroit and its neighborhoods. Hamtramck and Highland Park are small enclaves within the city.

Viewing the projects is free and open to the public.
