Festival Along Detroit River To Promote Positive Youth, Police Interaction

DETROIT (AP) - A festival and concert will be held along the Detroit riverfront to support positive interaction between the city's youth and its police department.

The Safe Summer Youth Jam is scheduled Thursday at Chene Park, just east of downtown.

The goal of the program is to get young people to think before they act. Participants and police officers will recite a pledge promising safety and peace.

Organizers say a nationally known music artist also will perform.

The Youth Jam is a partnership between the police department and the Skillman Foundation.
