FBI Task Force Officer Shot Outside Southfield Marriott Hotel

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) -- Officials have confirmed that an undercover FBI task force officer was shot outside of a hotel in Southfield on Friday night.

The incident happened in the parking lot of the Marriott Hotel on Northwestern Highway.

FBI spokesperson Jill Washburn told WWJ Newsradio 950 that the officer was a part of the Michigan Trafficking and Exploitation Crimes Task Force.

"The task force was conducting an op at this location this evening," Washburn said. "In the process of that they encountered a subject, shots were exchanged and one of the task force officers was shot. The subject was also shot."

The suspect died at the scene, while the officer -- who was shot in the vest -- has injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
