FBI Employee Allegedly Shoots At Cop At Planet Fitness

GRAND RAPIDS (WWJ) A Grand Rapids officer was shot at Tuesday morning --allegedly by an FBI employee -- when the cop responded to calls involving a firearm at Planet Fitness, 3681 28th Street, police said.

It happened at 1:18 a.m.

Officers responded to 911 calls of a man who was seen brandishing a gun inside the fitness center. The suspect shot at a police sergeant as he was attempting to make contact with him, police said.

Seconds later, the 35 year old suspect was located at a parking lot just north of the Center Point Mall where he was arrested at gunpoint. No shots were fired by police personnel. A handgun was recovered following the suspect's arrest.

It was later discovered the suspect is employed by the Federal Bureau of
Investigation.

"Notification has been sent to the FBI Agency in Detroit," Grand Rapids police said, adding the incident remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
