Woman found shot dead in her Southfield home, suspect in custody

A woman was found dead in her Southfield home after being shot late Sunday night, police said.

Southfield police and fire crews responded to a report of a shooting around 11:39 p.m. Sunday in the 18000 block of Bainbridge Drive.

Authorities said that when first responders arrived, they found a woman who had an apparent gunshot wound. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the victim knew the suspect, who fled the scene, but was later arrested by police.

"It's a quiet neighborhood. Everybody here is really nice. We walk our dog all the time, so we see people, we chat with them, and everyone is just nice and friendly," said neighbor Caryn Gray. "There was nothing that would lead us to believe anything like this would ever happen."

An investigation is ongoing, but investigators said the case will soon be forwarded to the Oakland County Prosecutors' Office for charges.

Police ask that anyone with information contact the Southfield Police Department at 248-796-5500 or contact Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 800-SPEAK-UP.
