Police investigate deadly shooting at Royal Oak apartment complex

One person is dead after a shooting on Thursday at an apartment complex in Royal Oak, Michigan.

According to the Royal Oak Police Department, officers responded to the Devon Park Apartment complex in the 3800 block of Crooks Road at about 11:59 a.m. The victim died from their injuries. Police said a suspect was taken into custody.

Police say the shooting happened in the parking lot.

Police have not released details about the suspect or victim. Neighbors told CBS News Detroit that the victim was a maintenance man, and the suspect was arguing with someone else before the shooting.

"I can't imagine him being involved in anything that would, of this degree, cause his life to be lost," said Andrew Belcher. "I've never felt safer walking through these neighborhoods. I couldn't believe that it could happen right next door to my house."

Police say there is no threat to the public.
