1 dead after multiple crashes on southbound I-75 near 8 Mile Road
(CBS DETROIT) - A Macomb County man died Thursday morning after multiple crashes on southbound I-75 near 8 Mile Road, officials said.
At 5:45 a.m. on April 11, troopers were called to southbound I-75 near 8 Mile Road for a crash and later announced that two crashes had happened at about the same time.
In one of the crashes, an Oak Park man, 37, in a Chevrolet SUV, was in the left lane when he lost control of the vehicle due to speeding. His vehicle slid across all lanes, struck the bridge support and came to a stop in the right lane. He sustained minor injuries.
State police say that in the second crash, a Chesterfield man, 26, in a Chevrolet Cruze, lost control of the vehicle due to speed, hit the bridge support and came to a stop in the left lane.
A driver in a Dodge Avenger was traveling in the left lane and struck the Cruze that was stopped. This driver sustained minor injuries.
The 26-year-old Chesterfield man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers are notifying his family. This incident pends autopsy results and further investigation.
The freeway was closed this morning due to the crashes, but has since reopened according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
