Fasting: Does It Work For Weight Loss?

PONTIAC (WWJ) - Could the answer to weight loss be intermittent fasting?

Jeff Johnson follows a diet where every other day he eats very little or fasts. The 64-year-old had been doing intermittent fasting for 18 months.

"I've noticed that I have more energy when I'm fasting and I've noticed that my weight has stabilized or even lost a few pounds here and there," Johnson said.

But eating too little could leave you famished, causing you to then overeat, according to Dr. Tom Rafai, a weight management expert with St. Joseph Mercy Oakland.

"People who eat six or more times per day tend to eat less calorically dense foods and overall less calories than people who eat less that four time per day, simply because they're never letting their hunger get out of control," Rafai said.

Before starting any weight loss plan it's always a good idea to check with your doctor.
