Facebook Updates News Feed Controls

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Facebook announced Thursday that it has increased the amount of control users will have over their News Feed.

The company has reworked the algorithm which selects which stories from people and pages liked by a Facebook user appears in their News Feed.

This change will give the user more control of their News Feed, the company stated.

"We know that ultimately you're the only one who truly knows what is most meaningful to you and that is why we want to give you more ways to control what you see," Jacob Frantz, Facebook product manager, wrote in a post.  "We've redesigned and expanded Facebook's News Feed Preferences to give you more control."

The new feature - available currently in iOS and rolled out on Android and desktop in the coming weeks - gives users the ability to elect which friends and Pages they would like to see at the top of their News Feed.

To access this feature, users should go into the News Feed Preferences by tapping "More" in the bottom right hand corner of their mobile app. News Feed Preferences are located under Settings.

This will open a new page which gives users a choice to prioritize who to see first, unfollow people to hide their posts, reconnect with people they have unfollowed and discover new pages.
