Environmental Cleanup At Ypsilanti Trail Gets $200,000 Boost

YPSILANTI (AP) -- An effort to deal with environmental concerns at a non-motorized path along the Huron River in Ypsilanti is getting a $200,000 boost.

The Washtenaw County Brownfield Authority awarded a grant to the city to remediate contaminated soil adjacent to the path that's in the Water Street redevelopment area. The work will allow officials to reopen the path, which was recently closed.

The path is a key segment of the Border-to-Border non-motorized trail system. Ypsilanti says it plans quick work on the cleanup project.

The money is from the Local Site Revolving Remediation Fund. The Brownfield Authority established the fund to help redevelop brownfield properties in Washtenaw County.
