Elderly Woman On Scooter Uninjured After Collision With Pickup Truck

DETROIT (WWJ) - A 74-year-old woman is counting her lucky stars after she was struck by a pickup truck while riding a motorized scooter on Detroit's west side.

The incident happened Thursday morning on State Fair Street near Woodward Avenue.

Brenda Thompson told WWJ's Charlie Langton she was crossing State Fair Street on the way back to her senior apartment home after dropping her granddaughter off at the school bus stop when she was blindsided.

"I feel OK but my scooter's broken," said Thompson, who was visibly shaken but otherwise uninjured. "They're going to check me out but I feel alright. I'm just, you know, nervous and I just can't imagine how this happened."

The driver of the truck told police he simply didn't see Thompson crossing the street.
