Effort To Digitize Out-Of-Print Books About Detroit-Area

DETROIT (AP) - Wayne State University Press plans to digitize 59 out-of-print titles under a joint project between the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Wayne State University says a $94,000 grant will fund the effort, which will focus on Jewish and regional studies. Books are expected to be accessible by December 2017 through the websites of the Wayne State University Library System and the Wayne State University Press.

Jane Hoehner, director of Wayne State University Press, says in a statement about the project that: "Having this rich information available and accessible in a digital format helps us increase awareness and knowledge of key issues in the region's history."

Topics involved include industrial and labor history, maritime history, Detroit history and biographies of significant individuals.
