Education Today: Bringing In The New Year Bright

By Sharlonda Buckman, CEO, Detroit Parent Network

Another year has come and passed and it's only natural to look back and feel grateful for the work we've done and the families we've served. Although separate from our accomplishments and experiences, it's equally as important to look forward to 2016, evaluate our personal goals and plan for the future. It's a time of year when many of us are buying calendars, new planners, setting resolutions, and heading to the gym to make a physical change. However, we must remember that we can set a resolution at any time of the year.

As we look at the persisting challenges Detroit families face today, I challenge you to ask yourself what am I doing to make our community brighter? Take the time out to create resolution and change for others, whether you offer some time at a homeless center, juvenile facility, offer tutoring services, or volunteer at a local non-profit, a little of your time could make all the difference for a family. So as 2016 approaches, set goals for yourself and get creative about how you can impact and move your neighborhood to be even better. It's time to put your ideas into action. Happy New Year.
