Eastern Michigan University Names Provost Interim President

YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - Eastern Michigan University has named its provost and academic vice president as interim president while it searches for a replacement for Susan W. Martin.

The board of regents at the Ypsilanti decided Thursday that Kim Schatzel will take over presidential duties when Martin steps down July 7 after seven years in the job.

Schatzel was dean of the business college at the University of Michigan-Dearborn before she came to Eastern Michigan in 2012.

The university says the eight-member board has designated itself as the official presidential search committee. The school says a search advisory committee will include four regents as well as faculty, staff, students, alumni and donors.

The 64-year-old Martin says she'll take a one-year sabbatical, then take up teaching as a professor of accounting and finance.
