Eastern And Western Music Meet In 'Palmer Woods Music In Homes' Performance

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's your chance to enjoy a unique musical performance in a historic Detroit neighborhood.

An exotic mix of Western and Chinese classical music will be featured this Saturday, April 19, during the Palmer Woods Music in Homes concert series.

Event Chair Barbara Barefield says the night promises to be filled with spirited and engaging music in the setting of a beautiful 1920's Tudor home.

"Xiao Dong is a master erhu musician," Barefield told WWJ Newsradio 950's Booke Allen, "and she's playing with two Detroit Symphony Orchestra members: violist Hang Su, who is also from China, and cellist Dave LeDou."

"The erhu is a traditional Chinese violin with two strings," Barefield explained. "It's played with a bow ... It has beautiful, beautiful sound."

A light buffet will be served at intermission.

Tickets, $40 each or $35, for groups of 10 or more, can be purchased at palmerwoods.org or by calling 313-891-2514. The address of the concert home in Palmer Woods is revealed when tickets are purchased.
