Early Morning Blaze Kills 1 Child, 5 Others Injured

VAN BUREN TWP (WWJ) - One child has died after an early morning house fire in Van Buren Township.

Three other children are in critical condition and another is stable along with an adult at U of M Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Van Buren Public Safety Deputy Director Jason Wright told WWJ that the tragedy is compounded by the loss of a young life.

"The second story is missing out of the home, it was a very extreme fully involved -- house fire -- it's a total loss. And we had a loss,     obviously it's very tragic as well," said Wright.

Huron Valley Ambulance Spokesperson Joyce Williams says they dispatched five ambulances to the scene upon getting the call of a serious fire on Denton Road around 4 a.m.

Fire departments from Van Buren Township, Sumpter Township, and Belleville all assisted said Wright adding, "Our hearts go out to the family, you know here at public safety we feel awful at is time of year that a family has to go through something like that, our thoughts and prayers are with them."
