Duggan Announces Side Lot Sale Program

DETROIT (AP) — Mayor Mike Duggan has announced a program to spur the sale of vacant lots to Detroit homeowners.

Lots on Detroit's southwest and west sides will be featured Dec. 6 in what the city is calling the first in a series of "side lot sale fairs."

Residents can use the program to purchase lots next to their homes for $100. The lots are available through the Detroit Land Bank.

Duggan said Wednesday that "people can do a whole lot better job of taking care of the lot next door than City Hall can."

The program is part of Duggan's blight plan for Detroit.

About 1,000 side lots are available in each of the two districts. The city expects similar fairs next year in Detroit's other five districts.
