DTW North Terminal Evacuated To 'Investigate Suspicious Situation'

ROMULUS (WWJ) -- Detroit Metropolitan Airport's North Terminal was evacuated on Saturday "out of an abundance of caution to investigate a suspicious situation."

Officials say a man was taken into custody and his laptop examined following an evacuation of the North Terminal. The man left the laptop at a ticket counter and made comments which "caused concern."

The laptop cleared security, but the man is being held while authorities investigate.

For about two hours, travelers at the North Terminal were stranded with no explanation except "a suspicious situation." The terminal reopened around 5:30 p.m.

All airlines except Delta, AirFrance and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines -- which operate out of the McNamara Terminal -- operate out of the North Terminal.

The evacuation was ordered just after 3:30 p.m.
