DTE Says 8,000 Still Without Power, Repairs Finishing Saturday Night And Into Sunday
DETROIT (WWJ) -- Storms delivering rain and high winds throughout Michigan this weekend have left thousands without power.
DTE Energy reports that 8,000 customers in the southeastern part of the state are still in the dark -- that's down from about 42,000 affected by the high winds that started Friday and continued Saturday.
Hard-hit areas include the St. Clair County communities of Port Huron and Marysville. Wind gusts of up to 50-mph were reported.
DTE Spokeswoman Randi Berris said that repair crews have been working hard to restore power to all affected.
"We knew the weather was coming, our crews have been hard at work all day and through last night working 16-hour shifts and they've made good progress today," Berris said. "We have about 8,000 customers still without power -- we will get many of those back on before the end of the night, and then the remaining customers we hope to have back by the end of the day tomorrow."
Meantime, Consumers Energy says about 2,800 of its customers lost power statewide.
