Drunk Driver Strikes Car, Utility Pole With Children In Vehicle

PONTIAC (WWJ) -- An Oakland County father is facing drunk driving and child endangerment charges after running into a utility pole and a car in Pontiac.

Police said the father, 24, had two kids -- aged five and six -- in the minivan when he crashed on Sunday afternoon near Glenwood and North Perry.  He made it to his house on Oliver Street and passed out in his home afterward.

Witnesses reported a Chrysler minivan, driven by a male, struck a utility pole and left the scene.

Authorities said his blood alcohol content was 0.22, or nearly three times the legal limit.  The kids were not hurt, but Child Protective Services has been called to investigate.

The man is now in the Oakland County jail on drunk driving and child endangerment charges.
