MDOT: No Significant Damage To I-275 Overpass After Semi Crash

CANTON (WWJ) - Authorities say an I-275 overpass that was struck by a semi-truck in Canton did not sustain any significant damage.

The incident unfolded around 6 a.m. Friday, when a semi-truck was involved in an accident along northbound I-275 at Cherry Hill Road and struck the overpass.

Fearing the bridge may have been damaged in the crash, officials asked drivers to avoid the area as Michigan Department of Transportation crews assessed the safety of the situation.

"It looks like no major damage to the bridge," said Diane Cross, MDOT spokesperson. "Now, there may be some to what the call the fascia, which is the outside wrapped around the structure, but structurally the bridge is fine."

It's unclear if anyone was injured in the crash.

The left lane on northbound I-275 remains closed as crews remain on the scene. Drivers are still asked to avoid the area.
