Driver Wanted In Fatal Hit And Run On I-96 Ramp In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - Michigan State Police are looking for a driver who ran away after he or she hit two people changing a tire on I-96 in Detroit.

A Detroit man — identified as 53-year old Howard Hill — was killed, a second person is in critical condition and two more were hurt in the accident early Sunday morning at westbound I-96 and the entrance ramp from Wyoming Ave.

A witness reported that, at around 2:30 a.m., a black Pontiac Bonneville was travelling in the right lane when it sideswiped a vehicle parked in the gore — the gap that separates the ramp from the lanes of the highway. After hitting the car, the same vehicle hit the people who were changing the tire.

State police said the driver of the Bonneville did pull over, but then fled the scene on foot.

Two people sitting inside the parked car were taken a local hospital with minor injuries.

Police have not released a description of the suspect.

As an investigation continues, anyone with information about this incident contact MSP at 248-584-5740.
