Driver Seriously Injured After Being Thrown From Car On M-53
SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) - Authorities say a man was seriously injured after being thrown from his vehicle during a crash on Van Dyke Freeway.
Police say the two-car accident happened just after 5 a.m. Friday on the merge lane to southbound M-53 from eastbound 23 Mile Road in Shelby Township.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 67-year-old Shelby Township man who had been "thrown clear" from his vehicle in the collision. He was taken to Henry Ford Hospital with serious injuries, although his current condition is unknown.
The other driver was treated and released.
Police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
Southbound M-53 between 26 Mile Road and Hall Road remains closed as police investigate the crash. Motorists are advised to avoid the area. Officials say the road could be closed until around noon Friday.
