Dole Recalls Bagged Salad Due To Possible Listeria Contamination

DETROIT (WWJ) - It's time to check your fridge.

Dole Fresh Vegetables is voluntarily recalling a limited number of bagged salad that could be contaminated with Listeria, a bacteria that causes a flu-like illness

Recalled products include Dole Italian Blend, Fresh Selections Italian Style Blend, Little Salad Bar Italian Salad, and Marketside Italian Style Salad. The salads have a use-by date of March 12.

Dole said the ordered the recall after a random sample of their Italian salad yielded a positive result for Listeria. No illnesses have been linked to the recall.

The products were sold at grocery stores across Michigan and 14 other states

Dole said it's highly unlikely that any product is still available at retail, since the product is day past its use-by date -- but it could still be in the refrigerators of consumers.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause foodborne illness in a person who eats a food item contaminated with it. Symptoms of infection may include fever, muscle aches, gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea. The illness primarily impacts pregnant women and adults with weakened immune systems. Most healthy adults and children rarely become seriously ill.
