Documentary Filmmaker Has Equipment Stolen During Shoot In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - This award-winning filmmaker who grew up in Detroit says his story will have a happy ending, even though all his camera and audio equipment was stolen from his car.
Kristian Hill says he's been encouraged by the response from Detroiters since word got out that thieves stole $8,500 worth of equipment he was using to record his documentary on the city's Electronic Music Scene.
"Unfortunately, it took this incident for me to see - not only does the city support what I do, it's supporting me, but they really want me to win - in spite of this incident - that's what I'm taking away from it," said Hill.
But he really wants to get his hands back on the audio, which he says is key to finishing the documentary.
A rough cut of Hill's documentary, called "Electric Roots: The Detroit Sound Project," was shown at the 67th annual Cannes (CON) Film festival. The Film was also nominated for a NAACP Image Award.
Hill says despite this setback, work on his documentary will be finished.
