Search Suspended For Man Believed To Have Fallen Into Rouge River

DEARBORN (WWJ) - Dive teams have suspended the search for a man believed to have fallen in the Rouge River near Michigan Avenue and Evergreen roads in Dearborn.

The search will resume in the morning along the banks of the Rouge River in Dearborn, behind the historic Henry Ford Estate, for the body of a missing man who apparently fell into the water there Tuesday afternoon.

A woman, 23, from Dearborn Heights, who was with the man, fell into the river, but was able to get to the shore. She was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

Authorities received a call just before 2 p.m. stating that a man and a woman had fallen into the river and were screaming for help.

Police and firefighters searched the banks of the river for about a mile but didn't find the man. The rescue started before the storms, but the Rouge River current is moving pretty fast due to yesterday's storms.

A dive team is continuing to search in the river Tuesday afternoon.

The identities of the missing man and injured woman have not been released.

After six hours, the search was called off and will resume after daybreak on Wednesday.

The Rouge River is approximately 127 miles and flows into the Detroit River at Zug Island.
