Dingell In Hospital; Homecoming Event Scratched

ROMULUS (AP) — A Michigan homecoming celebration for retiring U.S. Rep. John Dingell has been postponed while he's in a Washington hospital.

Spokesman Christopher Schuler says the celebration planned for Saturday at Detroit Metropolitan Airport will be rescheduled. Schuler says the 88-year-old Dingell, Congress' longest-serving member, is resting comfortably.

Schuler didn't say why the Democrat was in the hospital, but Dingell tweeted on Tuesday that he had fallen and injured his hip.

Dingell was supposed to be welcomed by business and government leaders at the airport in Romulus.

He was first elected in 1955 to replace his father who had died. Dingell didn't run for re-election this year and will be replaced by his wife, Debbie Dingell.
