Detroit's Slows Bar-B-Q To Open Pontiac Location

PONTIAC (WWJ) - What some say is some of the best barbecue in metro Detroit will, for the first time, be available in Oakland County.

Slows Bar-B-Q — which has received nationwide acclaim for its giant barbecue sandwiches sold at locations in Corktown and Midtown Detroit — will open a new location in Pontiac's The Strand Theatre.

"We chose Pontiac as the site of our first Metro Detroit expansion for the same reasons we chose Corktown, it's an underserved community with a defined identity and potential for an exciting evolution," Cooley said. "We are excited to become part of the neighborhood and serve up great tasting Slows Bar-B-Q to the folks who live, work and visit Pontiac."

Slows will  occupy 6,500 square feet adjoining The Strand and serve as the theater's food and beverage  for the 838-seat theater, which will host concerts, Broadway shows and family entertainment.

"Slows is a positive example of the best in Michigan-owned business, serving delicious food while supporting Michigan's economy by offering locally crafted brews," said Kyle Westberg, CEO of West Construction Services, The Strand Theatre's owner and developer. "This dedication to community is aligned closely with the mission of The Strand."

Construction will begin on the theater and the restaurant early next year.

In October it was announced a Slows would open in Grand Rapids in 2015.
