Detroit's Largest Union Ratifies Contract Deal
DETROIT (AP) - Detroit's largest union says its members have ratified tentative agreements reached during the city's bankruptcy case.
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 25 announced Thursday that its members and other unions completed voting on the tentative contracts this week. Mediators in mid-June announced the tentative deals.
In a statement, AFSCME Council 25 President Al Garrett says "labor and management have forged a path forward that secures the future for working people and the citizens they serve."
AFSCME says a number of other unions also ratified agreements. Meanwhile, a public singing of the ratified contracts is scheduled for Friday.
