Detroit's Floods Restaurant Not Closing, Despite Rumors

DETROIT (WWJ) - Fast moving rumors on social media have prompted a popular downtown Detroit restaurant to respond.

Spokesman for Floods Bar and Grille, David Rudolph says the longtime gathering place is not closing, despite what you may have heard or read online.

"This is one of those thing that is really coming out of the blue here," Rudolph told WWJ Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis. "It's very reminiscent of a very old quote from Mark Twain, which is 'The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.'"

"Just because it's on the internet does not mean it's true," he added. " This is a classic case of misinformation and speculation gone viral on Facebook."

Floods has been a mainstay in downtown Detroit for 25 years.

"I am here to inform Detroit and the rest of the great patrons and customers and stakeholders that have enjoyed the years of good times at Floods Bar and Grill that business is open and has no intentions of closing," he said.

Floods is housed in a building recently purchased by Blue Cross, Blue Shield; and Rudolph says rumors started after Metro Times moved out from upstairs office suites and renovation worked began.
