Detroit's Brush Park Neighborhood Gets $102M in Development
DETROIT (AP) — Plans are in the works for three development projects totaling $102 million in Detroit's historic Brush Park neighborhood.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced Thursday they'll include 367 residential units in an area that's seen increased redevelopment in recent years.
Two projects, Brush House and Brush 8, are developed by City Growth Partners. The third, Brush + Watson, is owned in part by American Community Developers. Duggan says the developments are part of an effort to include "truly mixed-income quality, affordable housing."
Brush Park is one of Detroit's oldest neighborhoods and more than a century ago was home to some of the city's wealthiest residents. But like other parts of Detroit it succumbed to abandonment and blight as hundreds of thousands of people left for the suburbs beginning in the 1950s.
