Detroiters Invited To Experience Vibrancy Of Shopping Local With First Ever 'Grocery Crawl'
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroiters are taking a new approach to grocery shopping.
On Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., residents are invited to join the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation for their first Grocery Crawl.
The initiative, part of the Green Grocer Project, will bus citizens to four independent food markets throughout southwest Detroit. At each stop, participants will experience food, culture and the vibrancy of shopping at Detroit's neighborhood grocery stores through product samplings, food tastings and cooking demonstrations. Grocers will also have activities and giveaways for customers.
Organizers say the Grocery Crawl is a way to help consumers re-establish that personal relationship with their independent neighborhood grocer.
Stores participating in the crawl are Garden Fresh Marketplace, E&L Supermercado, Honey Bee Market, Prince Valley Market and Ryan's Foods Super Mercado.
Buses begin loading at 10 a.m. at Consortium High School on Military Street.
