Detroit Won't Place Bid To Host 2017 Summer X Games

DETROIT (AP) -- Detroit won't bid for the 2017 Summer X Games because key locations aren't available.

Dave Beachnau of the Detroit Sports Commission tells the Detroit Free Press that Ford Field and Joe Louis Arena won't be available for the weeklong competition.

Joe Louis Arena is scheduled to close at the end of the next NHL season. Bids for the 2017 and 2018 Summer X Games were due last week.

The Free Press says X Games representatives recently visited Detroit. Beachnau says he's hopeful for future years. Detroit has been a past runner-up.

Summer X Games include skateboarding, motocross, bike events and other events. The 2016 games will be played in Austin, Texas.
