Detroit Woman Charged With Fatally Shooting Boyfriend At Gas Station

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit woman accused of fatally shooting her boyfriend over the weekend says she did what she had to save her own life.

Starr K. Holmes, 25, was arraigned Monday in the 36th District Court on second-degree murder and felony firearm charges.

According to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, Holmes shot 31-year old Pap Robinson Jenkins after a disagreement at a Marathon gas station — in the 12000 block of Grand River, near Wyoming —early Saturday morning.

Investigators said the two were arguing after Jenkins refused to return some personal items belonging to Holmes, when she shot Jenkins in the face. He was taken to DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Holmes, who was arrested at the scene, told police that Jenkins tried to run her over with his car and she shot him in self-defense.

Holmes was remanded into custody without bond at her arraignment, pending a return to District Court next week for a probable cause hearing.
