Detroit Woman Gets Prison In Husband's Fatal Shooting

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A Detroit woman convicted of manslaughter and assault in the slaying of her husband and wounding of her 8-year-old daughter has been sentenced to prison.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says Jacqueline Lewis was sentenced Tuesday to 8 years and 4 months to 15 years for manslaughter and 6 to 10 years for assault. The 39-year-old was also sentenced to 2 years behind bars for using a firearm during a felony.

Lewis had been charged with premeditated murder, a form of first-degree murder, but the conviction earlier came back on the lesser manslaughter charge.

Cornell Lewis was shot to death in February following an argument in the family's home on Fenton Street, near Grand River Avenue and Telegraph Road in northwest Detroit. Authorities say Jacqueline Lewis also aimed a gun at her 11-year-old son.
