Detroit Woman Found Dead In Home Without Heat

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say a 57-year-old woman was found frozen to death inside her home on Detroit's west side.

The woman's body was found Thursday inside her home on Monica Street. Investigators say the home did not have any heat, although it wasn't immediately clear how long the heat had been shut off.

According to Sgt. Michael Woody, the woman was dead for at least three days before her body was found.

Authorities aren't sure if the woman died from natural causes, or if the extreme cold was a factor. It could be days before autopsy results reveal exactly how the woman died, Woody said.

There have been at least seven deaths around southeast Michigan this week -- all related to snow, ice and freezing temperatures.

The woman's name was not released.
