Detroit Woman Charged With Murder In Domestic Partner's Fatal Stabbing

DETROIT (WWJ) - Wayne County Prosecutor's says a 45-year-old Detroit woman has been charged with murdering her female domestic partner.

April Smith, 23, was stabbed to death Wednesday night in her apartment on Corbett Street near Chalmers and I-94, according to police.

On Thursday, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office filed a first degree premeditated murder charge against Needra Anderson, who was living with Smith in an apartment in the 14400-block of Corbett Street.

Investigators say there said the two women had been involved in an argument that evening that escalated into a physical fight. Eventually, it's alleged, Anderson grabbed a butcher knife and stabbed Smith several times.

Smith, who was found on a bedroom floor with multiple stab wounds, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Prosecutors said an arraignment for Anderson would be scheduled for Thursday afternoon or Friday in 36th District Court.
