Detroit Tigers Foundation To Present $300,000 Gift To Detroit Pal's Kids At The Corner Capacity Campaign

DETROIT- The Detroit Tigers Foundation, an affiliate of Ilitch Charities, and official charity of the Detroit Tigers, will present a gift of $300,000 to Detroit PAL during an on-field, pregame ceremony to support PAL's Kids at the Corner capacity campaign prior to the game on Monday, May 23 vs. the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:10 p.m.

This grant is the largest single gift ever made by the Detroit Tigers Foundation and will support PAL's new multi-sports youth complex and headquarters at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull. The complex, which will allow PAL to expand its programming to serve more Detroit children will also be used to host home game played in the Tiny Tigers t-ball program and Detroit Tigers Hometown Championship, two signature youth baseball programs also funded by the Detroit Tigers Foundation.

The grant was made possible, in part, due to the fundraising efforts and generosity of several Tigers players and alumni including Justin Verlander, Miguel Cabrera, Alan Trammell and Phil Coke.

PAL's "Kids at the Corner" campaign kicked off in February 2015, after the Detroit Economic Development Corporation approved PAL's plans to redevelop the land into a sports complex and PAL headquarters at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull. PAL has successfully raised over $12 million to date and broke ground on the new facility in April 2016.

Since its establishment in 2005, the Detroit Tigers Foundation has awarded nearly $19 million in grants, college scholarship and tickets to Tigers baseball games. Grants have helped refurbish over 70 ball fields in the greater Detroit community and helped establish and expand youth baseball programs including Tiny Tigers, a t-ball program for 600 children and the Detroit Tigers Hometown Championship, a year-end t-ball, softball and baseball tournament for over 1,000 young ballplayers.
