Detroit Tigers Acquire Erick Aybar From Atlanta Braves In Exchange For Mike Aviles And Kade Scivicque

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers announced today that the club has acquired infielder Erick Aybar from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for infielder Mike Aviles and catcher Kade Scivicque.

Aybar, 32, has played in 97 games with Atlanta this season and is hitting .242 (81x335) with 27 runs scored, 14 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 26 RBI. Aybar has posted a .313 (31x99) batting average with nine runs scored, four doubles, two triples, one home run and 12 RBI in 27 games since the All-Star break.

In 11 seasons at the major league level with the Los Angeles Angels (2006-15) and Atlanta Braves (2016), Aybar has hit .274 (1304x4762) with 599 runs scored, 236 doubles, 45 triples, 50 home runs and 443 RBI. Aybar was named to the American League All-Star Team in 2014 as a member of the Angels and won a gold glove at shortstop in 2011.

Aviles, 35, has played in 68 games this season with the Tigers and is hitting .210 (35x167) with 17 runs scored, five doubles, one triple, one home run and six RBI. Aviles, who is in his ninth season at the major league level, is a .262 (766x2923) career hitter with 375 runs scored, 137 doubles, 13 triples, 59 home runs and 298 RBI.

Scivicque, 23, has spent the entire 2016 season with Single A Lakeland, playing in 105 games and is hitting .282 (118x418) with 45 runs scored, 19 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 41 RBI.

Additionally, the Tigers have recalled outfielder Steven Moya from Triple A Toledo and he will be available for tonight's game vs. Kansas City.
