Detroit Teen Sentenced In French Street Artist's Slaying

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A Detroit teenager will spend four to six years in a juvenile facility for his role in the slaying of a French street artist.

The Detroit News reports that the 15-year-old received a blended sentence Wednesday and could face up to 65 years in prison if he gets into more trouble.

He was convicted of murder and robbery and is the fourth defendant sentenced in the death of 23-year-old Bilal Berreni. The others are adults.

The story made national headlines when Berreni's body was found July 29 , 2013, outside the dilapidated Frederick Douglass Homes — more commonly know as the Brewster projects.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner determined Berreni had died from a gunshot wound to the head.

No identification or passport was found and Berreni's body, and it took Michigan State Police seven months to identify him through fingerprints.

Authorities say about $300 had been stolen.

The teen wasn't accused of pulling the trigger. The Associated Press is not naming him because of his age.
