$350K Payout By DPS To Ex-Student Suing Charles Pugh

DETROIT (AP) - After less than two days of trial, the Detroit school district has settled a lawsuit with a former student who claims his rights were violated by a city council member's sexual advances.

Charles Pugh served as a mentor to the boy when he was 17 at Detroit's Douglass Academy. They exchanged hundreds of text messages, including some that were sexually explicit.

Detroit Public Schools said Wednesday that details of the settlement won't be released immediately. The Detroit News, citing documents, said the district is paying $350,000.

Pugh still is a defendant in the case, although the civil trial is going on without him. He quit city government in 2013, moved to New York and has declined to attend.

Pugh is testifying through a video deposition that was recorded before trial.
