Detroit Police Officer Injured In Scuffle With Gun-Toting Suspect

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit police officer is recovering after breaking his ankle during a confrontation with a gun-toting suspect on the city's west side.

The incident happened Monday evening while officers were patrolling a neighborhood near Greenfield Road and Fenkell Avenue. As the officers drove along Prest Street, they saw a man waving a gun and pulled over in his direction.

According to reports, the officers asked the man to put the gun down, but he went running into a house. One of the officers chased after the man and tackled him, but broke his ankle in the process.

The injured officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene. It's unclear what charges he may be facing.
