Detroit Police ID Young Boy Seen Riding Bike On I-75 Service Drive

DETROIT (WWJ) - A story about an unattended young boy spotted playing near I-75 in Detroit has a happy ending.

Detroit police say they received multiple calls from concerned passers-by as the child was riding his bike along the Fisher Freeway Service Drive at Wheelock Street, late Wednesday afternoon, on the city's west side.

Police picked up the boy and made him a guest in the 4th Precinct for several hours, until his family was found.

Officer Preston Powell said he's doing just fine.

"He's about seven. He's very intelligent...as far as sitting still," Powell told WWJ Newsradio 950's Jon Hewett. "He seems to be well taken care of, in other words."

Police were able to tentatively identify the boy's mother, who is expected to be reunited with her son Wednesday night after being sent home to secure his birth certificate and other forms of identification.

The boy's name was not released.
