Detroit Police: Alcohol Apparently A Factor In Fatal Beating

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are trying to get to the bottom of what led to a brutal killing Thursday morning on the city's west side.

According to Deputy Police Chief Rodney Johnson, it happened at a home on Linsdale Street, near I-96 and Joy Road — and involved three men.

Two of the men were badly beaten; and one of them died of his injuries. The third man, who police say was armed with a baseball bat, was arrested.

"It seems that early on in the investigation all three were together, and all three were in the same location. Why an altercation occurred is what we're trying to uncover now," Johnson said.

Johnson said investigators believe the men had been drinking.

"Alcohol appears to have played a factor," Johnson said. "...You know, how much or what was involved is unclear at this time, but it does appear that alcohol may have been involved."

The living victim was listed in serious condition at a local hospital later Thursday.

No names were released.
