Detroit Pistons Plan 'Major' Support For Summer Jobs Program

DETROIT (AP) — Detroit Pistons officials plan to announce what they're calling "major financial support" for Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan's effort to put 8,000 young people to work this summer.

Team officials are expected to share their plans Monday morning at an event that's also scheduled to include Duggan and Wayne County Executive Warren Evans.

Duggan has challenged businesses and foundations to employ residents between the ages of 14 and 24. Earlier this month, officials said more than 11,000 applied online for summer jobs through the Grow Detroit's Young Talent program.

The program runs July 6 through Aug. 26.
