A Detroit man has been sentenced to up to 50 years in prison over the death of a 1-year-old girl in 2022, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office reported.

LeRoy Metoyer III was sentenced Monday by Judge Wanda Evans to 25 to 50 years in prison on a conviction of second-degree murder, and 15 to 30 years in prison on a conviction of first-degree child abuse, prosecutor Kym Worthy announced. The sentences will run concurrently through the Michigan Department of Corrections.

The charges are in connection with the death of Justice Starks on Nov. 29, 2022.

Charges against Metoyer were filed in March 2023
